2006 Zind-Humbrecht Pinot Gris Thann (Alsace, France)
The 2006 Pinot Gris Thann is made from young vines grown in the Rangen, and was initially to have been bottled as the domaine's generic Pinot Gris. But the quality was very high of the vines that were planted between 1978 and 1989 on sedimentary volcanic rocks that are south facing on very steep slopes and is coming to maturity (this is the second vintage of this bottling) that it was bottled as Thann again. Huge acidity, some noble rot with apricots, peaches, nectaries, smoke, minerals and waxy...
