Christmas Gifts for Boyfriends

Whether you have been dating for a month or a year, there is always a perfect gift for your guy at Christmas. Throughout the year, you'll of course be keeping your eyes peeled for clues about what he might be wanting, so that when it comes to shopping you've got an arsenal full of ideas, from that snazzy new MP3 player he keeps talking about to that sexy watch he has been eyeing. Sometimes, however, the arsenal isn't as full as we'd like and we wind up frantically racing through an electronics store in the hopes that something catches our gaze. Don't let that happen to you this holiday season! Use this guide for ideas about what to get your man so that he'll think you've been planning this one all along--even if you actually wait until Christmas Eve to go shopping.

How To Spend

  • Advice For The New Couple: If you have just started dating and it has only been a month or two, you probably should think twice about giving gifts at Christmas. Unless you know for sure that he's planning to buy you a present, don't even worry about it. If he might be getting you something, think about a small gift for him: it shouldn't cost more than $50. If nothing comes to mind, consider just taking him out to dinner or treat him to a night on the town.
  • Together For Three to Six Months: If you've been together at least three months, that usually means that there is some sort of exclusivity starting to happen between the two of you. Getting a Christmas gift is definitely a good idea, but don't assume that you have to spend a lot--keep it under $100 (or whatever suits your budget). Remember, this is just the beginning. You want something that shows you have a clue about what he's into, whether it be sports, music, movies, art, fashion, travel, etc, but you also want the gift to stay fairly simple. Getting too romantic too soon could strike a sour note with your new beau, so here are some safe gifts to give in this early stage of your relationship.
  • Together For Six Months to a Year: By now it's probably clear that you are both quite serious about the relationship. Gifts at this stage should definitely show that you've put some thought into them. They should suit his style and personality too. Spend upwards of $50, but not more than $200.
  • The One Year Mark and Beyond: There is no limit to how much you can spend or how extravagant the gift may be. It all depends on how close you are and what type of a commitment you have.

Gift Ideas

Seems like every Christmas, we girls always want to find our man the perfect gift. How do we top last year's? What will make sure that he never forgets about you, no matter what happens?  No worries ladies, we've got your options right here.

The Classics

Wallet

It's generic, sure, but a wallet  will help get him in order and you'll upgrade that Superman billfold he's held onto since high school. Stay within your budget, but go for quality brands, even designer names when possible.

Clothes (stick to tops)

Clothes are practical, and if he wears them, you'll know that he truly liked them. Of course, you're not going for the grandma-knit Christmas sweater--tops are your target. They'll be easier when it comes to size than shoes or pants.

Watch

Watches can be tricky. You definitely don't want to get him something cheap, but if you two have only been going out for a few months, a Rolex might be a little overboard. Check out what we've listed below.

Sure-Fire Gifts

CDs or DVDs

What's his favorite band or TV show? Get him a Best Of or a boxed set of something you know he is into. It shows you are paying attention, but it's still practical and fun. Plus, you can watch together. Don't forget the popcorn !

Cologne

You can't go wrong with cologne . Every guy could do with some classic-smelling splash now and then. Take note of whether he likes "manly" scents or sweeter ones. Usually you can tell his tastes by what he likes on you. See our guide to Cologne for more tips.

Event Tickets

Tickets to see a guy's favorite band or sports team are priceless gifts. You'll score huge points, especially if you actually show enthusiasm to go with him to support his fandom (go Dallas!) and get into the spirit during the event.

  • Basketball: Lakers, Celtics, Suns, Nets
  • Baseball: Yankees, Red Sox, Dodgers
  • Football: Steelers, Broncos, Raiders
  • Tennis: US Open tickets
  • Concert tickets: Jay-Z, Radiohead

Fun Gifts

Movie Poster

Get him a poster of his favorite movie and present it in a nice frame . It's fun, it can be sexy, and it could help spruce up his living space. Just make sure it's cool, not corny, and that it blends with his decor. Another option is a framed vinyl record  of his favorite song or album.

Something Electronic

If he's a gadget-guy, get him the ultimate one: the iPad . If he's already got it (or he's anti-Apple), consider updating his MP3 player . Always see him fighting with his cell's headset ? Get him a bluetooth . Headphones are always a great idea, too. Check out the stylish pairs we have listed below.

For The Kid In Him

If your guy is a gamer, you can't go wrong with video games or even shiny new consoles--howver, handhelds are a fun inexpensive accessory. From the Ninentdo Wii to the Xbox--and more--let him play around.

Best-selling games:

Consoles:

Monthly Club

Why not give a gift that produces all year long? A Beer of the Month Club  is a hit with guys who love brews as well as those who are connoisseurs. And don't forget that there are other monthly clubs that could appeal to your guy too.

  • "Fancy" gym membership
  • Wine Clubs
  • Popular museum membership

Cute Gifts

Picture Frame

All guys have a sensitive side, and you could tap into it by offering him a picture frame of pictures of you two together. Avoid giving him a frame with only pictures of yourself, no matter how in love he is with you. A frame with photos of you two will make him remember the good times of the relationship.

Dinner Date

Take him out to his favorite restaurant and treat him to dinner (as in, YOU pay)! If the weather is absolutely dreadful, then maybe it's better to plan a romantic dinner inside. Surprise him with the classic, candle-lit dinner, complete with homemade _____(fill in the blank) or take-out (for those of us who can't cook for their lives). Oh, and don't forget to wear your sexiest outfit!

Gifts That Are All About Him

The Sports Fan

Get him some hot new sports stuff, whether it be apparel ,shoes , or equipment. Think golf clubs  or sports jerseys . You might also get him a subscription to a sports magazine .
