Who said you couldn't be vegan and still look fabulous? Even if you're not vegan, there is no shortage of crueltyfriendly brushes with some tips on finding the right makeup.
What Makes a Brush Vegan?
* The only brushes you'll find that do not contain animal hair are labeled:
** Synthetic
** Taklon
** Nylon
* If your makeup brush is not made of any of these materials, it is likely that it was made of hair from animals that were killed unethically, for the sole purpose of providing hair for the makeup brush.
* Make sure that your makeup brush is 100% synthetic, otherwise, it will also contain animal hair.
* Some find that synthetic brushes don't feel any different than brushes made with animal hair, and may even feel better on the skin. They can also clean easier and won't shed hairs.
* You could even go so far as to go to a hobby or paint shop to purchase artists' brushes, which are usually synthetic. Don't let the desperation get to you, we have some great brushes for you below!
The Best Makeup for Vegans
* If you want to purchase vegan makeup, avoid products with these ingredients:
** Beeswax
** Carmine
** Elastin
** Hyaluronic acid
** Lactose/lactalbumin
** Lanolin
** Lard
** Propolis
** Propylparaben
** Silk
** Squalane
** Tallow
** Whey or other milk products
* Feel free to call or write to a makeup company to double-check on unfamiliar ingredients.
* Also look out for labels on the product that ensure it was not tested on animals or is cruelty-free.
'''Tip''': It will often be easier to find a powderbased makeup. Anything red will most likely not be vegan, as the red dye is derived from carmine (essence of bug).
