What is the best part of any holiday? The baking, of course! For some it is sentimental, conjuring up childhood memories of cooking with their moms, for others it's a nice way to spend time in the kitchen with friends, but for mostly all of us it's an excuse to overindulge our sweet tooth. While we often think Christmas when we hear the term holiday baking, from Thanksgiving to Valentine's Day, baked goods are great for any holiday. Branch out of the sugar cookie snowflake box and get creative! And don't forget baked treats also make great, personal gifts.
The Right Supplies
While different bakes goods call for different ingredients, there are a few items and supplies that one should always have on hand. First, a good measuring cup is key - go for stainless steel or glass. With baking measuring your ingredients is imperative for the success of your recipe. Measuring spoons are key too, again try for stainless steel. Next, mixing bowls. Having a few different sizes in your kitchen is great idea because most baking recipes require that you mix the dry and wet ingredients separately. These can be purchased individually or in a set. You'll also need a mixing spoon (best to get one wooden and one metal), a whisk, and a spatula. And finally, bakeware. Depending on what you're making you'll likely need at least a cookie sheet or two, but also perhaps a baking pan, cake pan, or baking dish. And don't forget to get a good pair of oven mitts!
