PlayStation 3 Buying Guide

PlayStation 3

When PS3  hits North America on November 17th, it wil undoubtebly create a major buzz. It will be far and away the most advanced gaming system to date, exceeding the capabilities of both Xbox 360  and Nintendo Wii . Its price, which is roughly $500, may be the system's only downfall. Here is a look at everything this revolutionary console will provide.

The Controller

The controller, a modified version of the PS2 Dual Shock , is equipped with motion sensor technology and is Wi-Fi and Bluetooth compatible, so you can potentially connect up to 7 controllers at once. Sony has also promised that the machine will be able to communicate with the handheld PSP .

Cool Features

  • The machine will play all PS2 and PlayStation games, but the memory cards from the old system probably won't work on the PS3.
  • Features HDTV compatibility.
  • The RSX GPU will roughly equal the quality (resolution-wise) of two top of the line Nvidia GeForce cards. Plus, it will be up to 30% faster than Nvidia 7800 GTX. Translation for non-geeks: The graphics will blow you away.
  • Plays DVDs, Blu-Ray discs and CDs. Memory wise, it supports a variety of formats: CompactFlash, SD/MMC chips and Memory Sticks.
  • Sony has promised an online community, akin to the lauded Xbox Live .
